Joseph Wilson Snuff Box

Joseph Wilson Snuff Box
Silver plate. English (Sheffield), c. 1785. Sheffield City Museum. Owned, and probably made, by Joseph Wilson (1723-96), plater and snuff manufacturer. An associate of Thomas Boulsover, Wilson was also founder of Wilson’s Snuff Mills, Sharrow, Sheffield; the ‘No. 1’ engraved on the cover of the box probably refers to a grade of snuff.
